Dutch design week Eindhoven & Gent Design Museum
War in Ukraine has taken homes from millions. Many people had to leave their native lands and (re)shape their notion of home anew, relocating and adapting their beliefs, traditions and rituals to new geographies & customs. Home(land) contextualizes Ukrainian narratives to the framework of The Netherlands.
An exhibition was made for the Dutch Design Week 2022 in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), and was shown in the Design Museum Gent (Belgium) in 2023.
A cross-disciplinary group of Ukrainian and Dutch-based creative practitioners, researchers and scientists pondered over past and current Ukrainian narratives and rituals on land, (re)discovering authentic site-specific crafts and techniques. Through collaborative material, knowledge and skill exchange this led to a series of objects that tell stories, ask questions and offer new perspectives to look into the future with hope, not fear.
